Irish Contemporary Figurative Painter

‘Based in Ireland, I use colour to shape emotion, creating paintings that stop people in their tracks. I create layered oil paintings that explore the relationship between colour and emotional response. My process is deliberate and cumulative, building each piece through translucent applications and fine embellishment.’

Gordon Harris is an Irish based artist whose practice is centred on the material and emotional potential of oil paint. Working through translucent layers he constructs surfaces that evolve gradually, allowing colour, depth and atmosphere to emerge over time.

His work explores the capacity of colour to generate an immediate response, creating a moment of visual arrest, followed by a slower more sustained engagement.

Harris has won numerous awards and has exhibited at The National Gallery of Ireland and The Royal Hibernian Academy. He was shortlisted for the Hennessy Portrait Prize and the Savilles Prize. His works are held in public and private collections in Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Monaco and Japan.
